Asia Global Institute is a multidisciplinary think tank co-established by The University of Hong Kong and the Fung Global Institute.
The institute’s mission is to generate and disseminate research and ideas on global issues from Asian perspectives. It aims to inform global policy and actions towards a prosperous and sustainable future for all.
Asia Global Institute's predecessor, Fung Global Institute was established in August 2011 with Victor K. Fung as Board Chairman, Michael Spence as Academic Council Chairman, and Andrew Sheng as President. In July 2015, Asia Global Institute was inaugurated at the University of Hong Kong, assuming the mission and operations of its predecessor. In July 2016, Professor Zhiwu Chen, Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics at the University of Hong Kong, was appointed as Asia Global Institute's Director.
Asia Global Institute’s predecessor, Fung Global Institute is inaugurated with Victor K. Fung as Chairman of the Executive Board, Michael Spence as Chairman of the Academic Council and Andrew Sheng as President, with financial support from the Victor and William Fung Foundation.
The institute’s’s office is open at Cyberport. It is co-located with the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Business and Economics.
The institute launches its inaugural flagship event, AsiaGlobal Dialogue, a premier forum for global thought leaders from academia, business and policy-making to gather in Hong Kong and have dialogues on pressing issues of our time.
The institute becomes a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Think Tank Leaders Forum.
Fung Global Institute and the University of Hong Kong announces the joint establishment of a new think tank within the university to be called Asia Global Institute. FGI provides a HK$100 million endowment.
Asia Global Institute at the University of Hong Kong is inaugurated. It assumes the mission and operations of FGI with Victor K. Fung as Advisory Board Chairman and Michael Spence as Academic Council Chairman.
The University of Hong Kong announces the appointment of Professor Zhiwu Chen as Director of Asia Global Institute with effect from July 1, 2016.
