Mission

Fung Global Institute, Asia Global Institute’s predecessor, was inaugurated with Victor K Fung as Executive Board Chairman, Michael Spence as Academic Council Chairman and Andrew Sheng as President, with financial support from the Victor and William Fung Foundation.

The institute’s office was co-located with the University of Hong Kong’s Faculty of Business and Economics at Cyberport.

AsiaGlobal Dialogue, a premier forum for global thought leaders from academia, business and policy-making to have dialogues on pressing issues of our time, was launched.

Became a founding member of the World Economic Forum’s Think Tank Leaders Forum.

Fung Global Institute and the University of Hong Kong announced the joint establishment of a new think tank within the university to be called Asia Global Institute. A HK$100 million endowment was provided by Fung Global Institute.

Asia Global Institute at the University of Hong Kong was inaugurated, assuming the same mission and operations of FGI with Victor K Fung as Advisory Board Chairman and Michael Spence as Academic Council Chairman.

Professor Zhiwu Chen was appointed as Director of Asia Global Institute on July 1, 2016.

Global Thinkers, a public outreach program of the Institute that features internationally renowned experts and thought leaders to address pressing global issues of our times, was launched.

Victor K Fung and Michael Spence were named Co-Chairs of Asia Global Institute’s Advisory Board.

Commencement of the inaugural cohort of the AsiaGlobal Fellows Program, an interdisciplinary global leadership development initiative for mid-career professionals with a strong interest and track record in public policy.

AsiaGlobal Online, the go-to website that offers Asian perspectives on global issues through research-based content, was launched.

The Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Study Centre was established.

Professor Heiwai Tang has been appointed as Director of Asia Global Institute on May 1, 2022.
