Adjunct Professor, Asia Global Institute
Paul Cheung is an Adjunct Professor with the Asia Competitiveness Institute, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore (NUS), and concurrently an Adjunct Professor with the Asia Global Institute, The University of Hong Kong.
He was formerly a Practice Professor at the NUS. During his tenure at NUS, he helped establish the Social Service Research Center at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (2015). He was the Director of Asia Competitiveness Institute of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy from 2019 to 2024. Prior to joining NUS, Cheung was the Director of the United Nations Statistics Office from 2004 to 2012. In this role, he facilitated the development of the global statistical system and coordinated the work of the United Nations Statistical Commission. He was also responsible for implementing UN mandates on geospatial data and analytics. Before joining the UN, he was the Chief Statistician of Singapore (1991-2004) and Director of the Population Planning Unit (1986-1994). Cheung is recognised globally for his work on social and economic policies, data and analyic systems, and cross-border development issues. He is a member of China National Bureau of Statistics’s National Statistical Experts Advisory Committee (2024-27) and Abu Dhabi Statistics Center’s International Strategic Advisory Committee.
