Since the late 1990s, Sharon Low has been working on the design and implementation of impact evaluations, cross-sectional surveys and participatory evaluations across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. A senior fellow at both the Atlantic Fellows for Health Equity in Southeast Asia and the Equity Initiative, Sharon collaborates with other fellows on projects to strengthen social and health equity in Southeast Asia and China. She is also a member of the Steering Committee for the one of the Health Systems Global’s Thematic Working Group on Health Systems in Fragile and Conflict Affected Areas.

Sharon holds a post-graduate diploma in humanitarian assistance from Fordham University, New York; an MPH from BRAC University, Bangladesh; and a BA from the National University of Singapore (NUS). She is currently pursuing a part-time MSc in Applied Geographic Information Systems at NUS. Sharon is an alumna of the International Programme of Development Evaluation Training at Carlton University and is part of the World Bank Center of Learning on Evaluation and Results (CLEAR) network.

With the support of universities in the Global North, Sharon co-founded the Research Lab initiative in Afghanistan and the Health Information Systems in the ethnic areas of Myanmar to build capacity and empower local professionals to co-lead research and evaluation, analyze and visualize data, among other skills.

Sharon believes that an overly mathematical approach to understanding data is insufficient to promote inclusion and equity, and is keen to examine how political decisions drive underlying social inequalities, social inclusion or exclusion and the distribution of resources. She hopes to forge more impactful partnerships to address such dynamics to achieve health equity in the region and beyond.
