About Jason Yip

Jason Yip is an award-winning social sector leader, with more than 10 years solid experience in humanitarian assistance and youth developments across East and Southeast Asia and conflict zones. He brings a unique combination of skills in operations, policy advocacy and business development, working across private, public sectors and civil society.

He previously worked as a delegate of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for 8 years and managed the organisation’s field offices (with size ranging from 15 to 25 people), in war torn contexts like Palestine, Afghanistan and Myanmar. With his substantial experience from the field, he was later in charge of government affairs and resources mobilisation in four contexts in East and Southeast Asia where he actively engaged state diplomats, corporates and private foundations for raising official contribution to humanitarian assistance and exploring meaningful formulas for private philanthropists to contribute to international humanitarian crisis. He also supported the organisation to explore new financial model and that included a humanitarian impact bond for the health programmes in African countries such as Mali and DRC.

In Hong Kong, Jason was the CEO of MWYO, a family office with the mission to drive better policy discussion on youth matters. Together with his colleagues, Jason developed a think-and-do-tank model and provided their research studies with solid empirical backbone through high impact community projects. The team was particularly strong in civic participation, and they were the leading pioneer in the city on community initiatives such as participatory budgeting and deliberative democracy with the involvement of official resources.

His research as an AsiaGlobal Fellow exmained the dynamics between youth upward social mobility and the de-colonization policy in Hong Kong and Macau.
