About Ebrahim Hashem

Ebrahim Hashem is a strategist and global economics scholar interested in positioning UAE and the Arab region strategically for a multipolar world, focusing on strengthening UAE/GCC/Arab-China relations.

Ebrahim looks into the global economic system and proposes ideas for the evolution of the international system in the next 20-30 years. He investigates the future of the US dollar and Chinese renminbi in the international trade and financial system. As an adjunct university faculty, he has taught an undergraduate course on innovation and entrepreneurship, equipping Emirati and international students with knowledge and skills to apply to high-growth enterprises. He has worked as a public policy and strategy advisor to the chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office and headed the long-term strategy division of Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).

Ebrahim was a visiting scholar at University of California, Berkeley and San Diego during 2017-18. He is a non-resident senior fellow at Center for China and Globalization (CCG) in Beijing. He holds three master’s degrees in three different fields: Engineering and Science, Business Administration and Public Administration.

He has written two books on oil and gas industry, and a book chapter on GCC-China strategic relations. His research as an AsiaGlobal Fellow will explore China’s transformation journey over the last 40 years and draw lessons for the UAE/GCC/Arab world. He also wants to understand the role of innovation in China’s development, especially now with its involvement in cutting-edge technologies and new frontiers.

His research focus as an AsiaGlobal Fellow explored policy areas to capture synergies between China and his country, UAE, and the Arab region.
