About Bruna Mara Liso Gagliardi

Bruna Mara Liso Gagliardi is a career diplomat, having joined Brazil’s Foreign Ministry in 2006. She is currently the Deputy Head of the Middle East Division and a Professor of International Politics at Rio Branco Institute – the Brazilian government’s official diplomatic academy. She has previously worked with human rights issues as an adviser on civil and political rights and as a specialist on the Interamerican System of Human Rights, representing the Brazilian government in various multilateral fora.

Bruna has a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of Sao Paulo (2000), a master’s degree in Media from Goldsmiths College, University of London (2004), a Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy and International Relations from Rio Branco Institute (2008) and a specialization in International Human Rights Law from the University of Nottingham (2015). She has been a lecturer on international relations for undergraduates and on international human rights law at Rio Branco Institute (2016). Before joining the Ministry, she worked as a press officer for Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) and set up the first commercial street paper in Brazil, OCAS.

Her research as an AsiaGlobal Fellow explored issues of privacy and online surveillance. In the context of the 2014 Brazilian Civil Rights Framework, the study also discussed different public policies regarding data collection, privacy and cybersecurity.
