About Stuart Gulliver


Stuart Gulliver is Group Chief Executive of HSBC Holdings plc. He is also Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, a position he has held since January 2011, and Chairman of HSBC France.  

Since joining HSBC in 1980, Mr Gulliver has held a number of key roles in the Group’s operations worldwide, including postings in London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur and the United Arab Emirates.

Before his appointment as Group Chief Executive of HSBC Holdings plc, he was Chairman of Europe, Middle East and Global Businesses of HSBC Holdings plc. He was appointed Chief Executive of Global Banking and Markets and HSBC Global Asset Management in 2006.

He has also served as Deputy Chairman of Trinkaus & Burkhardt AG; Chairman of HSBC Private Banking Holdings (Suisse) SA, and on the boards of HSBC USA Inc, HSBC Bank USA, N.A., HSBC Bank Plc and HSBC Bank Middle East Limited.  Mr Gulliver has been an Executive Director of HSBC Holdings plc since 2008.

He attended Oxford University where he received a Master’s degree in jurisprudence.
