Plenary Dialogue 1: Changing Major Powers Relationship: China's Role in Today's Global Order

By purchasing power parity, China is already the world's largest economy. Its power and influence are only set to grow even more in coming decades, challenging US dominance not just in Asia but around the globe. At a time when Washington is turning away from traditional multilateralism, China is building a network of strategic partnerships across the world, taking more assertive foreign policy positions and challenging American technological leadership. What global leadership role is China shaping for itself? How is China shifting the power equation in Asia, particularly in its interactions with "frenemies" India and Japan? And how will China's relationship with the US evolve in the remaining years of Trump and beyond?

Plenary Dialogue 2: The Future of Work

Fourth Industrial Revolution technology is changing everything about the way we think and work. In the age of artificial intelligence, Big Data and the Internet of Things, all job descriptions must be rewritten. How is the skills landscape shifting - and how will employers be able to close the gaps? In a gig-economy world of constant learning, multi-tasking and automation, how can workers find security and dignity? Is the universal basic income the key to a stable, productive and healthy working life?

- Rob Johnson, President, The Institute for New Economic Thinking

Parallel Breakout Sessions 1A - Globalization and Civilization: Understanding Conflict and Cooperation in the Asia Pacific

The US-China trade dispute may be a preview of things to come - a high-stakes techno-nationalist battle for strategic influence in the Asia Pacific. It is shaping up to be a clash of civilizations, a collision of different values, some argue. How are power relationships changing in the region, especially with the deepening integration of Southeast Asia and the closer relationships that ASEAN is forging not just with China but with India and Japan? Where are the opportunities for cooperation? Where are the potential points of conflict? Are the forces of populism and nationalism, borne out of growing inequality, driving a decoupling, a new wave of de-globalization?

- Zhiwu Chen, Director, Asia Global Institute
- Yoshikazu Kato, Adjunct Associate Professor, Asia Global Institute
- Ananth Krishnan, Visiting Fellow, Brookings India (AsiaGlobal Fellow 2019)
- Kishore Mahbubani, Distinguished Fellow, Asia Research Institute, National University of Singapore

Parallel Breakout Sessions 1B: Achieving and Financing the Next Stage of Asia's Development

Asian economies are among the fastest growing in the world. By 2030, two thirds of the global middle class will be living in the region. Demand for infrastructure such as transport, water supply or waste treatment will remain strong and there are concerns whether Asian economies could get enough financing to support all such badly-needed investments. Meanwhile, there is a rapidly increasing realization that green finance is important to ensure investments will help to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). What are the key considerations in promoting green finance? What are the opportunities and challenges in financing the needs of the rapidly changing demographics in Asia, including ageing? What role will technology play, either in improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial services industry or in promoting financial inclusion?

- Sally Chen, Hong Kong Resident Representative, International Monetary Fund
- Fred Hu, Chairman, Primavera Capital Group
- Julia Leung, Deputy CEO, Securities and Futures Commission, Hong Kong
- Laurence Li, Chairman, Hong Kong Financial Services Development Council
- KC Kwok, AsiaGlobal Fellows Program Director, Asia Global Institute (moderator)

Parallel Breakout Session 2A: The Outlook for Global Trade

The multilateral trading system is in rocky waters. The US-China trade dispute is disrupting supply chains, prompting trade diversification and talk of decoupling. Tariffs have become a geopolitical weapon. The dispute settlement function of the World Trade Organization (WTO) could grind to a halt early next year. Brexit has torn apart what had been the best example of regional integration in the world. In this age of Trump, is the world de-globalizing?

- Vinod Aggarwal, Director of Berkeley Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Study Center, The University of California at Berkeley

Parallel Breakout Sessions 2B: Revolution in Healthcare through Digitalization

From the management of medical records to the delivery of treatments, technology is revolutionizing the healthcare sector. But is the revolution making life better for more people and providing higher quality services at a reasonable cost? Are innovations in healthcare bridging health divides and narrowing inequality - or are they creating a world split between fit individuals who can afford the best high-tech solutions that will prolong life and the unfit who settle for painkillers rather than real remedies?

- Jeff Chen, Chief Innovation Officer, Fullerton Health
- Barbara Meynert, Senior Advisor, Fung Group
- Husein Reka, Chief Transformation Officer, Program for Health Assurance and Purchasing, Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia (AsiaGlobal Fellow 2019)
