Posted on Thursday, January 16, 2020

In his regular column in Japanese publication Diamond Online, Yoshikazu Kato, Adjunct Associate Professor of the Asia Global Institute, analyzes the causes of Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen's historic victory and what Chinese President Xi Jinping's next move might be. Kato believes tension between mainland China and Taiwan will remain high, with Xi having limited room to change his assertive policies towards the island due to political complexities in Beijing.
