While Trump's focus on deregulation and industrial policy aims to boost domestic tech and restrict China's access to American technology, it overlooks the vital cycle of innovation. By prioritizing commercialization and diffusion over the initial invention stage, and by simultaneously overregulating research while underregulating product safety and data privacy, the US risks hindering true technological advancement and ironically undermining its own competitiveness with China.
