UCLA Distinguished Professor Christopher Tang shared with the audience his research on ESG and supply chain management in this lecture on March 31, 2023.
In a recent study, Chris and his coauthors discovered that mandatory reporting reduced scope 1 emissions but increased scope 3 emissions. This suggested that some businesses may have shifted their emissions to their suppliers under the pressure of reporting. Also, as ESG advancements were made primarily in the EU and the US, there were concerns that other nations, particularly emerging markets, could be left at a disadvantage.
What are Chris’s suggestions to close these gaps in order to ensure a healthy progression of ESG? Watch the replay here.
