The increasing importance of China in the global economy has set the scene for the renminbi (RMB) to assume a key position in the international monetary and financial system. Unique incentives have been used in China to internationalize its currency, and Hong Kong has taken up an important role in bolstering the RMB’s internationalization. Based on his recent book, “One Currency, Two Markets: China’s Attempt to Internationalize the Renminbi”, Professor Edwin L C Lai of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology will examine China's strategy of internationalizing the RMB and use an empirical model to assess the status of the RMB, compared to the USD and the EURO.

The presentation will be followed by a discussion and Q&A session moderated by Professor Heiwai Tang of the University of Hong Kong.

The AGI Public Policy Webinar Series features leading academics and scholars from universities and think tanks around the world presenting current research on global public-policy issues and discussing their significance and implications for Asia and the world. All are welcome.
