Artificial Intelligence is a powerful technology that is already having large impacts on the size, direction and composition of international trade flows. Daniel Trefler, a leading researcher in the field, addresses a series of questions that are essential for advancing national competitiveness and international cooperation. What is AI, how is it a unique technology, and which industries have been and will be most affected? The answers to these questions help us understand China’s future international trajectory in the AI space. Further, AI will need to be regulated internationally.
