Abstract

This event is jointly organized by Asia Global Institute and the EU Office to Hong Kong and Macao, in collaboration with the Foreign Trade Association.

Mr. Mauro Petriccione is Deputy Director-General, DG TRADE, European Commission and is in charge of the European Union’s trade and investment relations with Greater China, including Hong Kong and is Chief Negotiator of the EU-Japan FTA, one of the largest trade deals ever to be negotiated. Mr. Petriccione will talk about the recent developments in international trade and the role the EU has taken around the world and in particular in Asia. The EU trade and investment relations with China and with President Trump’s America and the struggle to fight resurgent protectionist tendencies around the globe will also feature high in his discussion.

A panel discussion on trade policy matters and recent developments takes place after Mr. Petriccione’s lecture. The panel discussion features Assistant Director-General (Europe) Owin Fung of the Trade and Industry Department of the Government of the HKSAR and Professor Larry Qiu, Associate Dean at the Faculty of Business and Economics at the University of Hong Kong. He is also President, China Trade Research Group; and an associate board member and editor at a various key research publications on trade. The discussion is moderated by Dr. Patrick Low, former AsiaGlobal Fellows Program Director.
