About Khatia Dekanoidze (Georgia)

Khatia Dekanoidze is a former member of the parliament of Georgia and a lecturer with extensive experience in governance and security. Between 2004 and 2012, she held various positions in Georgia’s reformist government, significantly transforming the national police force and establishing the modern Police Academy, which she directed from 2008 to 2011. In 2012, she was appointed minister of education and science of Georgia. 

In 2014, she was invited by the Ukrainian government to join a team of reformers. As the first female chief of Ukraine’s National Police, overseeing more than 110,000 officers, she spearheaded comprehensive reforms, modernizing the police force and leading major anti-corruption initiatives.

She has advised international organizations on law enforcement reforms throughout the former Soviet states and served as an adjunct professor at the George C Marshall European Center for Security Studies, where she contributed to security governance training.

Khatia holds a bachelor’s degree in international law and international relations from Tbilisi State University.

As an AsiaGlobal Fellow, her research will focus on advancing women’s political leadership and police reform, leveraging her deep expertise to address global governance challenges with insights from Asia.
