Joshua Xu is a senior finance and business executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience across investment banking, private equity, corporate strategy, and corporate management. Working across Hong Kong, Mainland China, Southeast Asia, the United States, and Australia, he has managed cross-border capital market transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and private placements exceeding US$20 billion in total value. He has developed deep sector expertise in technology, media and entertainment, financial institutions, and consumer businesses, with a particular focus on companies navigating innovation, globalization, and structural transformation.
He has held senior leadership roles at major financial institutions, including Huatai International, ICBC International, Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch, and Citigroup. His corporate experience also includes leading private equity platforms focused on disruptive technology and serving as chief executive officer of a publicly listed entertainment group, where he managed regional operations, corporate restructuring, and international joint ventures across Asia, North America, and Europe.
Joshua holds an MBA from MIT Sloan School of Management, an MPA in international development from Harvard Kennedy School, an MPhil in management studies from the University of Cambridge, and a bachelor’s degree in economics from Peking University.
As an AsiaGlobal Fellow, Joshua will examine the evolving globalization of Chinese companies amid geopolitical fragmentation, technological disruption, and shifting global value chains.
