About Eric Kakoole

Eric Kakoole is a seasoned Public Policy Expert with over 16 years of expertise in policy formulation, legislative drafting, and project management, spanning various ministries, including education, agriculture, transport and health.

Currently serving as the Assistant Commissioner for Policy Analysis at the Ministry of Education, Eric is responsible for analyzing, developing, and implementing education policies aimed at enhancing the quality of education in Uganda. He collaborates closely with stakeholders, drafts legislation, and presents policy recommendations to Cabinet and Parliament for approval and enactment.

Prior to his current role, Eric coordinated the Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative (Gavi) in Uganda, where he managed programs and initiatives to improve access to vaccines and healthcare services and served as HIV/AIDS Technical Advisor in Beijing, China.

Outside of his professional endeavours, Eric is an active Rotarian with the Rotary Club of Kampala Central, engaging in community service projects, and a member of the Kampala Green Festival, advocating for environmental sustainability and conservation efforts.

Eric is committed to driving positive change and making valuable contributions to the advancement of education and public health in Uganda through his expertise in policy analysis and strategic leadership. Looking ahead, Eric plans to continue his policy advocacy on a global platform.

Eric holds a bachelor’s degree in development studies from Makerere University and a master’s degree in international development policy from Seoul National University. He also holds a diploma in laws from Makerere University.

Eric is spearheading the establishment of a National School Feeding Program. His research as an AsiaGlobal Fellow will focus on exploring options for school feeding in resource-poor settings, with a special emphasis on case studies from Asian countries.
