National Arts Council of South Africa
Celenhle Dlamini is currently chairperson of the National Arts Council (NAC), the largest Government funded organization for the arts and culture sector of South Africa. She is the former chairperson of Artscape (the Western Cape State Theatre) and deputy chairperson of the African Delphic Council. She also previously served on the global L’Oreal Panel of Critical Friends, an external global governance body responsible for examining the progress made by L’Oreal on its global sustainability program.
Celenhle’s passion for youth exchange programs has led to her championing one of South Africa’s largest youth international exchange programs which has facilitated the placement of over 5,000 South African youth abroad on formal internship programs in the US, Canada, Australia, China, New Zealand and the UK. She has been recognized for this work by the Mayor of Austin, Texas, in the US and was awarded the Key to the City.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Bennet College and a master’s degree in entrepreneurship and new venture creation from Wits University. Celenhle also completed the executive leadership development program with Duke Corporate Education and the management advancement program with Wits University.
Celenhle’s research as an AsiaGlobal Fellow will examine the role of education and skills development in enhancing the prospects of young women in entrepreneurship in South Africa.
