Batnairamdal Otgonshar is a member of parliament of Mongolia, serving on the Standing Committees on Economy and Human Development. Elected in 2024, he represents central Ulaanbaatar. Prior to his election, he served as international secretary of the Mongolian People’s Party, the governing social democratic party with more than a century of history, where he oversaw international relations and strategic partnerships.

Earlier in his public service career, he served as vice minister of Mining and Heavy Industry and as senior advisor to the chief cabinet secretary of the Government of Mongolia. In these roles, he contributed to regulatory reform, long-term development strategy, and key policy initiatives in the mining sector and broader economic governance.

Before entering government, Batnairamdal worked in investment banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York and Sydney, focusing on mergers and acquisitions and the natural resources sector across the Asia-Pacific region.

Recognized as a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader (Class of 2023), Batnairamdal is also a prominent voice in Mongolia's cultural and educational landscape. He is the author of the national bestselling memoir From Hovd to Harvard and co-founder of the Unlock Podcast, a platform that has generated millions of views by summarizing bestselling nonfiction books to expand access to lifelong learning across Mongolia. Raised in Hovd in western Mongolia, he holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Macalester College and an MBA from Harvard Business School. 

As an AsiaGlobal Fellow, Batnairamdal’s research will provide comparative analysis of whistleblower protection frameworks in selected Asian jurisdictions and propose legislative and institutional reforms tailored to Mongolia’s legal and political context.
