Bapon Fakhruddin is a climate resilience specialist with over 25 years of experience advising governments and international organizations worldwide on disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation. Trained as a hydrometeorologist, he specializes in climate risk assessment, early warning systems, community resilience, and water security. Bapon currently leads the water sector at the Green Climate Fund, where he oversees climate investments in vulnerable countries.

He serves on several international science and policy committees, including the Committee on Data of the International Science Council, the Group on Earth Observations, and various United Nations platforms, helping to shape global adaptation strategies. In the field of climate finance, he has developed innovative financial instruments and co-investment platforms to support sustainability projects, particularly in Small Island Developing States and conflict-affected regions. 

Bapon holds a PhD in water engineering, as well as a diploma in sustainable finance from Harvard Business School.

As an AsiaGlobal Fellow, Bapon’s research will explore how Asian countries can better integrate advanced climate science and innovative financing into water resource management policies to strengthen regional resilience.
