David Eldon

About David Eldon

David Eldon, GBS, CBE, JP, is the former Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited (HSBC), a position he held at the culmination of a distinguished 37-year career with the HSBC Group. He joined the bank in 1968, serving in a variety of roles across the Middle East before taking his first position in Hong Kong in 1979. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer of HSBC in 1996 and ascended to Chairman in 1999, also serving as a main board Director of HSBC Holdings plc. A highly respected figure in the global financial community, Mr. Eldon has also served as the non-executive Chairman of Hang Seng Bank and as a Past Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. He is a Fellow of both the Chartered Institute of Bankers and the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers. His extensive board service has included the Mass Transit Railway Corporation, the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, and as a Steward of the Hong Kong Jockey Club. From 2005 to 2012, he was an Adviser to the Office of the President of South Korea.
