AGI Global History Lecture Series: The Idea of China - Looking through the Lens of Global Sport

What is China? What is Chineseness? Professor Xu will look at the connections between China’s burning desire in global sports and the question of “What is China and the quest for Chineseness” in this lunch talk. He will draw on diverse perspectives on global sports and the understanding of global sports from the late 19th century to the present day. The lecture will also examine how memberships in international sports federations and international multi-sport events have been utilized to address the issue of the representation of China.
